Get Out and Play - March 30-April 4

This week is Spring Break for many Fort Wayne families.  For those staycationing this week, here’s a mix of indoor and outdoor destinations for kids in preschool and elementary school:

Monday – Spend the most spring-like day of Spring Break outside.  Kreager Park has a huge soft-surface to keep you out of the mud, and plenty of equipment to play on, even if you have to splash through a few puddles.  7225 North River Road.

Tuesday – April Fools Day at the Main Library – Something is amiss at the Library!  All ages can walk through anytime during the day to spot the foolish changes.  From 2:00-3:30pm kids ages 6-11 can check out optical tricks in artwork and try creating their own illusions.  900 Library Plaza.  (Several library branches have extra activities this week--check out this blog post listing the options, or the full library schedule here.)

Wednesday – It's always balmy inside the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory.  Their temporary High Places and Hidden Spaces exhibit features a playspace full of nooks and crannies made for exploring.  Adults $5, children $3, 2 and under free.  Parking is free with admission in the parking garage diagonally across from the gardens.  1100 S Calhoun Street.  10am-5pm.

Thursday – It's opening night at the Tincaps!  Brave baseball fans will want to rest up today, and then bundle up for the ballpark tonight.  Game starts at 7:05 against the Great Lakes Loons.  The $5 lawn seats are filling up fast, so buy tickets ahead of time if you're picky about seating.  If you prefer drier weather for your athletics, try out the batting cages or mini-golf at the Plex South, open 3-8pm, 5702 Engle Road.

Friday – Splurge over Spring Break with a bounce at Sky Zone.  Little ones from walking to 5 years old can jump at toddler time from 10:30-noon for $8 (parents can "walk," but not jump, for free).  The trampolines are open to all ages from noon-9pm.  Buy your tickets ahead of time online, prices start at $10 for a half hour.  All ages must buy a $2 pair of reusable socks to use on the trampolines.  Full Spring Break schedule here.  401 Fernhill Avenue.

What about you?  Is there a new attraction you've been meaning to check out, or a favorite play spot that is finally free of snow?  Share your Spring Break picks in the comments!

Welcome!

Welcome to this new little space on the internet.  For all the mamas and papas who need a little inspiration to get out of the house, or who need another idea of what to do with kids in tow, I offer you this blog of activities for children and families around Fort Wayne, Indiana.

To start out, I'll be posting twice a week--a list of weekday activities aimed at the 0-5 crowd and their caregivers home during the day, and a list of weekend activities of interest to families with children up through elementary age.  I've got some more ideas that might pop in now and then, and I would love to hear from you, too.  What would you find useful as you show your kids around Northeast Indiana?

Fort Wayne is a busy city for families, and while I enjoy exploring with my two sons, I am by no means on top of all the area has to offer.  Please, chime in, either by e-mail or in the comments, and let everyone know about events that you enjoy.  And stay tuned for the first post of weekday ideas to keep your family entertained over Spring Break...
